Waterville Senior High School has announced its class of 2021 top 10 graduates.

Emme Ayers is graduating first in the class of 2021 with an unweighted GPA of 98.617. She is a member of the National Honor Society (president), Green Team (co-president), Science Olympiad, Math Team, outdoor track, and soccer (captain) teams. She has been recognized for her academic and social excellence with a Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine Academic Achievement Award, a Renaissance Award, a nomination to the Class B Regional All-Star Soccer team, and an honorable mention by the ShineOnCass Foundation for her charity work.

In addition to working a job, Ayers volunteers at Mid Maine Regional Adult Community Education, tutors other students, and is a volunteer coach for the Waterville Youth Soccer Association. She plans to attend Duke University in the fall, studying global health and biology. Ayers is the daughter of Andrew Ayers and Julie Letourneau Ayers of Waterville.

Zoey Trussell is graduating second in the class with an unweighted GPA of 97.604. She participated in drama (cast and crew), Pep Band, swim and softball teams, Junior Classical League, class Officers, Tri-M Music Honors Society, Homeroom Buddies, and Campus Ambassadors. She has been recognized with a Renaissance Award, Smith College Book Award, and an MPA Drama All-Cast Award.

In addition to working as a lifeguard and teaching swimming lessons, Trussell volunteers at Mid Maine Regional Adult Community Education, distributing meals through the local YMCA, assisting elementary school teachers, and helping to coach junior high school Swimming. Trussell plans to attend the University of Maine in the fall, studying elementary education. She is the daughter of Maureen and Michael Trussell of Waterville.

Inga Zimba is graduating third with an unweighted GPA of 97.490. She is a member of the tennis team, class officers (vice-president), Tri-M Music Honors Society (president), National Honor Society, Math Team, Science Olympiad, Green Team, Pit Orchestra, Jazz Band, Kennebec Valley Honors Band, All-State Orchestra, and the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival. She is a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship, received a Renaissance Award for Academics and Good School Citizenship, won the A.H. Chatfield Jr. Piano Prize, and a Dartmouth College Book Award.

She volunteers as a tutor, assisted with Riverwalk cleanups, and helped to organize the Waterville Senior High School voter registration drive. Zimba plans to attend a four-year university in the fall. She is the daughter of Travis and Yasameen Zimba of Waterville.

Morgan Folsom is graduating fourth with an unweighted GPA of 96.812. She was selected into the All-State Music Festival, participated in the Kennebec Valley Music Festival, MPA One Act Drama Festival, Drama, Key Club, Speech, Ocean Bowl, and National Honor Society. She was recognized with a Wellesley College Book Award.

In addition to working a job, she volunteers with the National Honor Society and plays music for residents of the Glenridge Nursing Home when not restricted by COVID-19 guidelines. Folsom plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington, majoring in psychology. She is the daughter of Janet Belanger of Vassalboro, and Steve Folsom of Fairfield.

Charles Haberstock is graduating fifth with an unweighted GPA of 96.605. He participated in tennis, golf, Green Team, class officers, Science Olympiad, Math Team, and Drama. He was recognized with a Williams College Book Award, the University of Rochester Xerox Award, and was named the Central Maine Boy’s Tennis Player of the Year. He states that his proudest accomplishment in school was finishing in the top 10 in the Maine State Geography Bee.

Haberstock plans to attend a four-year university in the fall, majoring in either economics or environmental science. He is the son of Carrie Haberstock of Waterville, and Alan Haberstock of Canaan.

Surya Amundsen is graduating sixth with an unweighted GPA of 96.455. She is a member of the cross-country team, captain; outdoor track, Green Team (vice-president), Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society), National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Math Team, and Science Olympiad. Amundsen was recognized by the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference as All-Academic, presented a Society of Women Engineers Maine Section Award, WSHS AP Chemistry Award, Renaissance Award for Academics and Good School Citizen, AP Scholar, and a member of a Nordic Skiing Eastern Championship Team.

In addition to her many school and extracurricular responsibilities, she volunteers at Quarry Road Trails. Amundsen plans to attend a four-year university in the fall, majoring in biochemistry. She is the daughter of Ole and Minakshi Amundsen of Waterville.

Lindsay Cote is graduating seventh with an unweighted GPA of 96.023. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Junior Classical League, historian; and Golf Team. She was recognized with a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference All-Conference Golfer Award, KVAC All-Conference Academic Award, Russell Sage Award, and a Coker Engagement Scholarship Award.

In addition to working, she volunteers for the Christine B. Foundation, delivering meals to cancer patients and is a Special Olympics volunteer. Cote plans to attend Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina, in the fall to play division two golf and major in exercise science. She is the daughter of Jaime and Mike Cote of Waterville.

Sarah McNeil is graduating eighth with an unweighted GPA of 96.000. She is a member of the swim team (captain), Seeds of Peace, Green Team (co-president), Drama, One-Act Play, class officers (corresponding secretary), tennis, Key Club, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, historian; Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society), and Homeroom Buddies. She was recognized with the University of Rochester Fredrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award, and a WSHS Renaissance Award for Academics and Good School Citizenship.

McNeil plans to attend a four-year college and is undecided on her major. She is the daughter of Tom and Cindy McNeil of Waterville.

Joseph Morin is graduating ninth with an unweighted GPA of 95.605. He participated in cross-country, indoor track, outdoor track, Science Olympiad, Speech and Debate, Green Team, National Honor Society, and Key Club. He received an AP Scholar Award from the College Board (for AP US History, AP US Government, and AP English), was presented a Varsity Letter Award in Cross-Country, and was named the Most Improved Runner.

In addition to working, he has volunteered at a local food pantry and assisted at junior high school track races. Morin plans to attend college in New York City, majoring in law. He is the son of Brian and Jacqueline Tjon Sieuw Morin of Waterville.

Alexander Renaud is graduating 10th with an unweighted GPA of 94.210. He participated in the swim team (captain), Drama, Green Team, Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society), and the National Honor Society. He has been recognized with a WSHS Renaissance Award and a Saint Michael’s Book Award.

For the past two summers, Alexander has worked as a lifeguard at Alfond Municipal Pool and is employed part-time by JCPenney. He volunteers in the WSHS Media Center and for the 7 Lakes Alliance (a local Land Trust). Renaud plans to attend a four-year college in the fall, majoring in business. He is the son of Paul and Michelle Renaud of Waterville.
