KENNEBUNK – Stephen L. Parks passed away on Jan. 10, 2021 after a two-decade long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a retiree of SAPPI in Skowhegan and was known as “Sparky” to most, inside and outside the plant, which started with the ‘S Parks’ on his hardhat that he wore as an electrician.

In his heyday he had a quick wit and wry sense of humor, and offered it up at the most unexpected times. Later when he became homebound, he enjoyed regaling stories of his youth and travels across the United States when he was a sales representative for Cooper-Weymouth in Clinton.

Stephen was born May 19, 1949 in Waterville as the third child to Roland F. and Edna A. (Brackett) Parks. He grew up in Sidney and continued to live there throughout most of his adult years taking over the family homestead and looking after his minor siblings after his mother passed. He attended schools in Sidney and Oakland and was a graduate of Williams High School in Oakland, class of 1967. He furthered his education at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute where he earned an associate degree in machining and tool and die.

He is predeceased by his parents and two siblings, Neal F. Parks and Marilyn P. Parks.

He is survived by his 10 remaining younger siblings and their spouses, Carol M. Parks of New Jersey, Diana B. Parks of Augusta, Jill F. Parks of Sidney, Susann J. Parks of Connecticut, Daniel S. Parks of Clinton, Timothy A. Parks and Mary Jane Parks of Sidney, Josephine P. Merryman of Kennebunk, Benjamin E. Parks and Mary Parks of Fairfield, Julie I.
