Gail A. McKenney

AUGUSTA – Gail A. McKenney, 68, died Thursday, April 15, 2021 on what would have been her 49th wedding anniversary, at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta following a brief illness. She was born in Gardiner on June 5, 1952, a daughter of the late Herman E. and Katherine E. (Richmond) Williams.

Mrs. McKenney was a graduate of Gardiner Area High School. She had been employed by the State of Maine for 40 years working in finance. Her career with the State included working in the Department of Human Services, Department of Environmental Protection, Department Agriculture, and ACE Service Center until she retired from the Department of Corrections.

Mrs. McKenney loved animals. She enjoyed watching the deer in the backyard eating grass or drinking out of the bird bath. She liked to watch hummingbirds hover at the feeder. What she liked most, was sitting in her chair under a blanket watching television with a purring cat on her lap or reading a crime mystery novel. Traveling with family always made her happy. Her favorite vacation memories were to Disney World, Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, Las Vegas, and to Niagara Falls, Canada. You never saw her without a smile.

Mrs. McKenney was predeceased by her husband, Thomas L. McKenney, three sisters, Clara Hinkley, Phyllis Richmond, Ona Thornton, and one brother Edward Williams.

She is survived by her daughter, Dawn L. McKenney of Augusta; three sisters, Carol Brann and her husband Wayne of Whitefield, Paula Cook and her husband Steven of South China and Lois Gosselin and her husband Reginald of Brandon, Fla., two brothers, Herman Williams and his wife Cathy of Pittston and Stephen Crockett and his wife Sandra of Winthrop, a sister-in-law, Arlene Genthner and her husband Eddie of Farmingdale; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
