Virginia Swinson Parker Robinson

NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia Swinson Parker Robinson, 92, died peacefully at home on April 13, 2021. She was born on June 23, 1928 in Warsaw, N.C. She is the daughter of Annie Louise Stokes Parker and Samuel E. Parker, the third child of four children.

She attended schools in Warsaw. She married Harold W. LaBombard of Isle LaMotte, Vt., Dec. 6, 1945, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Norfolk, Va. They had two daughters, Dianne and Deborah. They were married 25 years and made their home in Burlington and Essex Jct., Vt. She worked at J.C. Penney Company in Burlington as Credit Manager for 13 years. She attended Champlain College, Burlington, taking Business courses. She married Graydon M. Robinson of Barton, Vt. on Oct. 26, 1970, in Loveland Colo. They had one daughter, Ginny Marie Robinson.

Virginia loved people and enjoyed traveling, and her husband Graydon traveled extensively in the United States and Canada, all their married life. She loved movies, music and dancing. She especially enjoyed her husband’s surprise plans for her birthdays — Hot-Air Balloon Ride, Glider Flight, Helicopter Ride and trips to Quebec, Canada, Philadelphia and New York City.

She was a communicant at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church in Madison, Maine. She was a convert, having been baptized as a Catholic in July, 1944, at age 16 at St. Mary’s Church, Norfolk, Va., with her parents and youngest sister Betty Ann as witnesses.

She is survived by three daughters, Dianne Tanner and her husband Charles of Harrington, Del., Debby Haskins and her husband Sam of East Calais, Vt., and Ginny Marie of Augusta, Maine. She leaves a sister and her best friend, Betty Ann White of Norfolk, Va.; two granddaughters, Kim LeBlanc and her husband Todd of St. Albans, Vt., Buffy Root and her husband Tim of Essex Jct., Vt.; five great-grandsons, Kyle Irish, Ryan Irish and his wife Kysta and Cole Irish of St. Albans, Vt., Jackson Root and Walker Root of Essex Jct., Vt.; one great-great-grandson Lucas Irish; one special nephew David Lewis of Norfolk, Va.; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Glennice Cottle of Farmington, Ginger Magoon of Hinkley, Miguel Bourque and Helene of Quebec City, Canada and many more dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Graydon of 42 years who passed away on Nov. 9, 2012; her parents; her only brother Samuel E. Parker II and a sister Ruth Elizabeth Ridgeley, both of Virginia Beach, Va.

Visiting hours will be held at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St. Madison, on April 22 during the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian’s Church at 161 Main St., Madison on April 23 at 10 a.m. Immediately following the Mass, friends and family are invited to a reception at Somerset Abbey in Madison.
