Bob Casimiro of Mainers for Responsible Immigration fears that a flood of immigrants will take jobs that are desperately needed by low-income Americans  (“Another View: Biden’s immigration plan will hurt hard-working Americans,” April 16).

Two points:

1. Many of the jobs filled by immigrants in this country are jobs that most Americans will not (or cannot) do, such as back-breaking work picking fruits and vegetables, which keeps them constantly moving from state to state to follow the harvest.

2. Maine’s young people keep moving out of the state. If immigrants don’t replace them, who will?

Except for Native Americans, we are all either immigrants or the descendants of immigrants. Today’s immigrants are often running for their lives. Let’s not be greedy about our country and its opportunities.
