Where is our society going? Where is our country going? It appears to me that we are being led into becoming a socialist country.

A socialist country has never worked anywhere in the world. I was brought up in believing in the work ethic. I was told that “you earn what you get, and you get what you earn.” We never expected some government agency to support us. Today I see the government giving out more handouts and creating more affirmative action programs that result in people becoming more reliant on the government and less on themselves.

This is the worst thing a government should do. It is not compassion but it is exploitation. Our country was based on self-reliance, hard work, taking risks by opportunities available, and believing in yourself and what you could do.

What happens when 51% of the people in the country rely on the government for their survival? Those in power will win every election by promising to keep feeding them. This is exploitation.

There seems to be more people who believe in equality of outcome rather than equality of opportunity. This goes against or discourages competition and the profit motive, which our country was based on. Is the way you feel our country should be going?
