Thomas (Thom) Dwight Sambrook

PORTLAND – Thomas “Thom” Dwight Sambrook, 71, longtime resident of Portland, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021, with his Smudge by his side.

Thom was born in Gardiner on Nov. 1, 1949, the son of the late Alfred E. and Betty (Chase) Sambrook. He attended local schools and graduated from Gardiner Area High School in the class of 1968. He furthered his education at Fordham University and the University of Maine, Augusta.

Thom loved the theater especially musicals. He had a wonderful voice and loved to dance. He was a past member of the Augusta Players, Gaslight Theatre and Portland Lyric Theatre. He directed, sang and choreographed many musical productions with Gaslight Theatre. Thom, our brother, was a lover of fine cuisine and his daily martini. Thom disliked work and was always waiting to hit the lottery!

Thom is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Sara and Bill Hasty of Gardiner, Valerie and Sam Hudspath of Belgrade, Darcie Sambrook of Waterville, and Estelle and Bud Holmes of Eckert, Colo.; his nephews, Seth (Brianne) Hasty and their son, Abe, of West Gardiner; and Tony Hasty (Tracy London) of Westbrook; several aunts and cousins; as well as many friends.

Due to Covid restrictions there will be no services at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. To view Thom’s memorial page, or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.ConroyTullyWalker.com
