Dorothy Waller (Boyd) Clary

GARDINER – Dorothy Waller (Boyd) Clary of Gardiner, died of natural causes on April 20, 2021, at the Captain Lewis Residence in Farmingdale, Maine.

Mrs. Clary, daughter of Ira H. and C. Louise (Newton) Waller, was born in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y., on Oct. 23, 1926. She was educated in Kings Mills and graduated from Erskine Academy. She attended the Kennebec School of Commerce in Gardiner, and in 1947 she married Robert D. Boyd and had two sons by that marriage (Steve and Rick). In 1959 she married Earl W. Clary and had one son by that marriage (Earl “Chip” Clary Jr.)

She retired after over 30 years of service as a Veteran’s Contact Representative at the Togus VA Medical Center. As a 60-year member and former trustee of the Highland Ave United Methodist Church of Gardiner, she was a member of the United Methodist Women of the Church as well as the Northern Avenue/Makaria unit. She was a past matron of Marion Chapter #63 in Gardiner, a past appointive Grand Officer of Maine of the OES and was given a commission as Grand Representative to Montana.

Mrs. Clary was a Regent of Samuel Grant Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Kennebec Valley Chapter of Retired Federal Employees, a member of the Current Events Club of Gardiner, and a member of the Cobbosseecontee Grange #100 in West Gardiner. For over 15 years she volunteered for the Gardiner Community Food Bank as well as Meals on Wheels of Senior Spectrum Hallowell. After her retirement, she worked on the voting polls for Ward 4 for over 20 years.

Survivors include her three sons: Earl W. Clary Jr. of Gardiner, Richard W. Boyd of Billerica, Mass., and Stephen R. Boyd and his wife Susan of La Quinta, Calif. She had three grandsons: Jason S. Clary, Kurt J. Boyd, and Kyle R. Boyd; two granddaughters: Kristen L. Clary and Kalie M. Boyd; a great-granddaughter, Avery N. Downs; and great-grandson, Bryson E. Clary.

Mrs. Clary and her family wish to thank the Captain Lewis Residence for their outstanding care during the last years of her life.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
