River Arts in Damariscotta opened April 21 with the first juried show of 2021, “Wild Things.” This exhibition will run until May 22.

Professional art, architecture and design writer Jorge Arango served as juror and selected works of 78 artists from the 111 submitted. Artists were invited to interpret the theme “Wild Things” in their own way.

From gestural abstractions to natural scenery and intimate views, “Wild Things” represents a comprehensive survey of the theme. Arango was open to the sweeping possibilities of this theme and his choices included many styles and mediums including minimal, abstract, representational, and assemblage sculpture.

This show brought many new artists to the Damariscotta gallery as well as those who have been active at River Arts for years.

In contrast to this exhibition in the main gallery, the River Room is featuring the nature photographs of Diane Woodworth of Hermon. Her solo show runs until May 5.

River Arts gallery at 36 Elm St. is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
