Asa Brian Craig

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Asa Brian Craig “Brian” died unexpectedly on April 26, 2021 at the age of 86 years at Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born in Pittsfield on May 21, 1934 to Russell and Grace (Wright) Craig and attended Pittsfield schools, graduating from Maine Central Institute in 1953. He enlisted in the Marine Corps serving from 1953-1961 attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He married Sally Elaine Barnes, his wife of 66 years.

After his service, he returned to Maine with his family and worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company before opening his own business as Craig Home Center which he owned and operated in Pittsfield for many years. As a member of the community Brian was active in several in service organizations, including the Jaycees, Kiwanis Club. He was a free Mason and a member of Meridian Lodge #125. He was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Palmyra.

Brian lived his values carrying his service as a United States Marine throughout his life devoted to the service of country, community, and family. In the last several years Brian and Sally have made their home in Lake Wales, Fla. where he was a member of the Marine Corps League and active in Marine Corps charities.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Craig; daughter, Dr. Vicki (Dr. Raymond Baum) Craig, daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Woods; grandchildren Isaac (Sarah) Boulanger, Ashley Boulanger White, Gwendolyn Baum, Meredith Baum, Craig Baum; and great-grandchildren Beauregard Boulanger, Colette Boulanger, Aubrey White and Garrett White.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Alice Anderson and Jane Cuddy, brothers Russell Craig and Nicholas Craig.

Funeral service will be at St. Martins Episcopal Church, 900 Main St., Palmyra on May 22 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Pittsfield Village Cemetery immediately after the service.

Contributions may be made to any Marine Corps charity i.e., Marine Corps Heritage Museum, Marine Corps League, and Toys for Tots in memory of Brian.
