Maria Puchinger Corson

ATHENS – Maria Puchinger Corson passed away at the age of 93 on April 27, 2021 after a brief illness at Redington Fairview General Hospital. She was known affectionately as “Micky” or “Mitzi” as well as simply by Maria.

Born May 24, 1927 in Linz, Austria to Johann and Maria Punchinger. Maria met her handsome husband, Cleon, while he was stationed in Germany during WWII. After the war ended, they made the long journey by boat to the United States. The young couple were married in 1947. They proved they were committed to each other by having three separate wedding ceremonies. Maria and Cleon settled down and started a family in Athens, raising two boys Wayne and Terry.

Maria arrived from Germany as a skilled seamstress and put her skills to good use. She made and altered clothes for an array of clients in the local area. She also had a love for a number of crafts. In her later years, she spent hours creating beaded crafts she then shared with people she spent time with. She gifted these creations throughout the community touching many lives.

Maria was predeceased by her parents Johann and Maria Punchinger; her sister, Erna Richardt; her husband, Cleon and their son, Wayne.

She is greatly missed by her son, Terry Corson and wife Joan; by her grandchildren Roger Corson and husband Dan, Sherry Parsons, Regina Corson and wife Lacey, Anthony Corson and wife Liza, Tina Muecke and husband Bob, Bradley Corson and significant other Laura; by her great-grandchildren Justin Henderson and wife Morgan, Paige Parsons, Samuel Muecke, Jacob Corson, Mariah Muecke, Abigail Corson, Codey Corson, Emily Corson; by her great-great-grandchildren Asia Henderson, Mia Henderson, Aislyn Henderson, Kaden Henderson, Delilah Henderson, and Jaxx Montgomery-Paul. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and other family in the USA and in Germany. She will be missed by many friends and neighbors, as she was a special part of her community for more than 70 years.

Maria called Tissues Boarding Home her home over the last few years. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff for caring for her during that time. She considered the staff and residents a part of her extended family.

Religious services will be at the graveside, with Pastor Haynie officiating, at Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens on Wednesday May 5, at 11 a.m. Celebration of life at Church Of The Open Bible at 105 South Main St. immediately following service.
