Barbara Edith Corbett

AUGUSTA – Barbara Edith Corbett passed away peacefully among family members on May 4, 2021. Barbara was born in Brooks on Nov. 14, 1932, a daughter of the late Laurel and Doris (Gilchrist) Furrow.

She lived her life in Augusta, graduating from Cony High School.

She was employed for many years at LaVerdiers Drug Stores, starting as a fountain clerk and progressing up to cosmetics sales manager. In the role of cosmetics manager, she traveled the state designing store cosmetic departments and displays. Later in life, after her retirement, she was employed by the Augusta School Department in food services for many youngsters and a few who got Barbara’s extra goodies.

She was a warm, happy woman who enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to the casinos and spoiling her dogs. However, her passion was her family, she greatly enjoyed family get togethers. She enjoyed nothing more than the Thanksgiving holiday get togethers and cooking enough food and turkey to send everyone home with left-overs.

Barbara had many accomplishments throughout her life, but the ones that mattered most were her children and grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Philip Corbett; also by two sisters, Beverly Hunter and Betty Blake.

She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Palmer of Augusta, and her three sons, Bill Corbett and his wife Ann of Nashua, N.H., Mike Corbett and his wife Sue of Hallowell and John Corbett of Augusta. She had five grandchildren, Amanda Mazerolle, David Corbett, Katy Corbett, Matthew Corbett and Colleen Corbett; great-grandchildren are Tenley and Ainsley Mazerolle, Hannah and William Corbett and Darien Shed.

The family would like to thank the staff of John Marvin Towers, where she resided in her last years, and also the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation aided by Hospice during her final days.

At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 11 at 12 p.m. at the Niche Wall in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive., Augusta, ME.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Condolences, stories and photos may be shared at http://www.plummerfh.com.
