Years ago my husband and I used to walk up the road near our house (the Back Road in Skowhegan) for a “trash walk.” There was always a lot. On one occasion when Bob was alone a lady stopped and offered him hers.

Years later some of the women in the neighborhood took up the job. We called ourselves the WWWs, the Women Walking and Whining. After our walk we got together to say what we would do if we were in charge.

After the snow melted this year there seemed to be more trash than usual. Last week when I went to town, there was a town truck, lights flashing, parked down the road and men out picking up trash. When I came home later, the truck was gone and the sides of the road looked clean and neat.

Thank you very much, Greg Dore and the Skowhegan Highway Department.
