Mary Louise Wright

AUGUSTA – Mary Louise Wright “Molly” died May 4, 2021 in Augusta.

Molly was born in 1930 in Jacksonville Fla. to Reverend Roland and Ruth (Rumsey) Mernitz. Her family lived in multiple parishes in Alabama and Illinois, finally settling in Evansville, Ind. Molly graduated Cum Laude from Elmhurst College, taught English as a missionary in Japan, married George T. Wright, lived in Germany, Chicago, and Montana until eventually settling in Roxbury, Conn. for 45 years. In 2014 she moved to Augusta.

Molly raised four rambunctious children. She was an active member of the Roxbury Congregational Church as minister’s wife, deacon, trustee, choir singer, and for 17 years a church secretary, retiring at the age of 82. She volunteered for the town zoning board, PTA, and as a voter registrar. She worked as a U.S. Census Regional Coordinator, barber, food server, florist, bank teller, farm worker, and bookstore manager.

Molly loved coffee with friends, singing, sewing, knitting, reading, swimming, debating politics and religion, and telling stories. She co-led youth church trips by van, school bus, canoe, and packhorse. Molly enjoyed camping at national parks, seashores, lakes, and mountains. She traveled to France, England, Italy, the Baltics, Canada, Mexico, and the Holy Lands.

Molly is survived by three sons, Stephen of New Preston, Conn., Charles and wife Diana of Fairport, N.Y., David and wife Carole Cifrino of Whitefield, daughter, Margaret Genoter and husband Chris of Townsend, Mass.; two brothers, RB and wife Judy of Indianapolis, and David and wife Marty of Sahuarita, Ariz., sister-in-law Marcia Ochotny and husband Art of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned at 11 a.m. August 7 at the Roxbury Congregational Church.

Memorials in her honor may be sent to the Roxbury Congregational Church, Heifer International, or Roxbury Scholarship Fund.
