GARDINER – Carlton Louis Pepin, 63, passed away suddenly in his home on May 3, 2021. Carl was born Nov. 20, 1957 in Fitchburg Mass, the second son to Marlene Jane (Berry) Pepin of Dover Foxcroft and Louis H. Pepin of Augusta. The Pepins moved a lot, following Lou’s career in the Social Security Administration, spending time in Massachusetts and Presque Isle before settling down on Pierce Street in Gardiner. He graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1976. Carl worked as an AA Specialist Welder at Bath Iron Works and retired after 42 years of shipbuilding, where he built many lifelong friendships. He was well known as one of the most knowledgeable in his craft, and always willing to teach newer shipbuilders.Carl enjoyed fly fishing, baseball and music of all genres. He frequented the Allagash and could always be found where there was music to be shared, religiously attending the North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland ever year. He was an avid reader, and it was not uncommon for Saturday morning batting practice to be held at the Pepin’s personal batting cage on Rideout Lane. He spent countless hours supporting his daughter’s sports teams and could always be found in the stands.Carl was predeceased by his mother, Marlene Jane Pepin, and father Louis H. Pepin. He is survived by his daughter, Allyce Pepin of Gardiner; his grandson Louis Newton; his brother, Eric Pepin and his wife Emily McRobbie of Flagstaff, Ariz.;, his stepmother Doris Pelletier of Augusta; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Karen Pepin of Augusta. An outdoor celebration of life will be held later in the summer. Enjoying his countless friends and family in the sunshine, with music in the air, is what he would have wanted and the legacy he will leave behind.Arrangements are in the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of our website at http://www.familyfirstfh.com
