MADISON – Edith (Spencer) Booker, 91, died May 8, 2021 at her home. She was born May 20, 1929 in North Anson. She was the daughter of Merton and Lena (Jackson) Spencer.

She was a 1949 graduate of Anson Academy and was employed at the W.H. Hinman mill for a few years. On Sept. 14, 1950 she married Roger Williams Booker.

She was predeceased by her husband Roger; her infant daughter Sandra; her brother Percy Spencer; and brother-in-law Walter Lightbody. She is survived by her sister Betty Lightbody, her sister-in-law Francis Spencer; her daughters Nancy Paine and her husband Peter, Sarah King and her husband Daniel, her sons Walter Booker and his wife Regina, and Albert Booker; grandchildren Peter Paine, Denise Paine, Jessica (King) and Bill Lauer, Amanda (King) and Josh Royce, Adam Booker, Steven Booker; great-grandchildren Nolan, Landon, Logan and Emersen; as well as a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

She volunteered her time helping her daughter Sarah with a Brownie troop in Anson as well as her daughter Nancy with a Junior Girl Scout troop in Madison. She was a member of the North Anson Congregational Church for over 50 years and later active in the Madison Congregational Church as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the woman’s association. She was a member and president of the D.A.R. club of Madison until the club was closed.

She will be laid to rest at the Sunset Cemetery in North Anson on May 30, 2021 at 1 p.m. Those wishing to join this socially distanced ceremony and celebrate her life are welcome to attend.
