Joyce Buker Stewart

SCARBOROUGH – Our mother, Joyce Buker Stewart, passed away at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, on Thursday, May 20, 2021, after a brief illness. Her daughters were with her at the time of her passing.

She was born on April 15, 1943, in Quincy, Mass., to parents, Freda and George Buker. Joyce grew up in Waterville, graduating from Waterville High School in 1960. After high school, Joyce married Jim Stewart and they were married for 58 years, until his passing this past January. They just couldn’t be apart.

Joyce had a long career at Keyes Fiber/Huhtamaki in Waterville in the Purchasing Dept. She also worked for L.L. Bean in the call center for several years. After retirement, Joyce kept busy volunteering at various organizations, most recently at Northern Light Inland Hospital. She met many people and made long lasting friendships during her work and volunteering years.

Joyce had many interests, including golfing, kayaking, playing cards with her girlfriends, and watching her beloved Boston Celtics. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her two grandsons play sports and take part in various activities.

Joyce was predeceased by her mother, Freda, father, George, husband, Jim and brother, George Buker.

She is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Tom) Higgins, Trisha (Dan) LeGage, grandsons, Lucas and Logan LeGage, sister, Sandra Paulette, aunt, Geraldine Nimon and many nieces and nephews and countless special friends.

We want to thank the wonderful staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Their careful guidance and caring was very much appreciated in our mother’s last days.

There will be a dual graveside service in Waterville for Joyce and her husband, Jim, later this summer.

Memorial contributions can be made in Joyce’s memory to
