WINTHROP — Katie Laliberte had a two-run triple and an RBI single to lift the Monmouth softball team to a 6-2 victory over rival Winthrop in a Mountain Valley Conference matchup in Winthrop on Tuesday.

Abby Flanagan had three singles and an RBI for the Mustangs (12-2), who scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth and three more in the seventh. Winthrop had runners on first and second in the bottom of the sixth, but a line drive back to pitcher Brooklyn Federico (six strikeouts) turned into a triple play that ended the rally.

Sage Fortin had two singles for the Ramblers (5-7), while Maddie Perkins also had a hit.

LAWRENCE 2, MARANACOOK 1, 9 INN.: Jon Roy’s infield single scored Nate Grard with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Bulldogs earned the KVAC victory in Fairfield.

Roy had two hits for Lawrence (8-3), while Hayden Lee pitched into the eighth and struck out seven and Zach Nickerson fanned four in relief.

Alex Trafton pitched seven innings for the Black Bears (5-7) and struck out seven, while Tyler Hreben had a pair of hits.

 

BOYS LACROSSE

 

CONY 20, MORSE 3: Isaac Beloff scored eight goals and Jack Morrill had five goals and six assists as the Rams (4-7) rolled to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory in Augusta.

Casey Mills added five goals with an assist, while Josh Barrett and Nick Geneseo rounded out the scoring, Brodi Freeman had two assists and Duncan Hayes had one. Luke White, a defenseman pressed into goaltending duties, made 18 saves.

Sam Prager, Maxon Brochu and Cayden Green had goals for the Shipbuilders.
