Aug. 17, 2020, is the date I almost died. I was hit by a car when I was on my bicycle after which I spent 10 days in the hospital. My ribs were broken, my lungs had collapsed, and my shoulder was displaced. The person that hit me said he was distracted. This incident has had a real negative effect on my life.
Although I appreciate the fact that the driver stopped and his insurance was helpful, I was surprised to find out that the incident was not investigated or treated as a crime. Incidents like this should be investigated as would be mandated under bill L.D. 821.
This bill should be passed by the Legislature. L.D. 821 would help protect vulnerable people on the road such as bicycle riders, wheelchair users, and pedestrians. Please notify your legislators that you would like them to pass L.D. 821. This bill is sponsored by the Bicycle Coalition and supported by AARP.
