After retirement he and his wife, Nancy, traveled the winter months over the country in their RV, along with his brothers and their wives, George and Mary and Chink and Patty. During the summer months he enjoyed golfing, gardening, and just spending time with his wife at their home on the river in Caratunk. He spent a week in November with friends, Alan Phillips and Charles Baker, at hunting camp on Indian Pond. This was something he looked forward to every year.
