CANAAN – Dorothy Elizabeth Blanchard, 94, passed to her rest on Jan. 7, 2021.

Dorothy was born to Alvin David Blanchard and Cora Edna (Labree) Blanchard in Hancock, Mass. Dorothy spent her formative years in Hudson and later made her home on Oak Street in Oakland, caring for her father until his death in 1967.

Dorothy is predeceased by her brothers Albert Blanchard, Stanley Blanchard, Robert Blanchard, Linwood Blanchard and her sister to whom she was especially close, Catherine A. (Blanchard) Strickland, “Kay,” of Canaan; nephew, Michael W. Strickland; and grandnephew, Ricky J. Strickland.

Dorothy was a steadfast employee of the Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland, until her retirement at the age of 65. She seldomly missed a day of work and walked three miles a day, to and from work, in rain, snow and shine.

Dorothy had many talents and hobbies. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Her family enjoyed many pies, cabbage rolls, casseroles and cakes due to her talents. She enjoyed collecting teacups and Boston Terrier figurines. She especially enjoyed time spent visiting with her sister, Kay, picking berries, preparing meals, and enjoying cups of tea. Dorothy also enjoy many day trips traveling with her close friends, Ruth and Wally Bulmer and telling stories to her relatives about her father and her dear Aunt Nell. Dorothy also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and caring for birds which frequently visited her ever-filled feeders.

Dorothy was the proud owner of many Boston Terrier dogs including her beloved, Sadie, whom she leaves behind.

Those whom especially miss Dorothy include, cousin, Beverly White, Edgecomb, Nathan and Nancy Strickland, Canaan, Brenda (Strickland) and Jerry Phair, Canaan, David Blanchard, Betty and Eddy Shaw of Boothbay, Jerry L. Phair, Canaan, Robin Phair and Brian Pell, Canaan, Melanie Strickland-King, Canaan, Ryan Strickland, Canaan, Margaret Blanchard, Jason Blanchard, Bradley Blanchard, of Oakland, and Karl and Myrla Rolfe of Benton, and neighbors Linda Collier and Mr. Philbrick of Oakland.

Committal service will be held June 18, 1 p.m. at Lewis Cemetery, 51 Cottle Rd., Oakland.
