Mark A. Sousa

AUGUSTA – Mark A. Sousa, 44, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 5, 2021. He was born on Sept. 9, 1976 in Augusta, the son of Lawrence K. and Nancy E. (Lovell) Sousa.

In Mark’s younger age he attended school in Augusta and Mount Vernon, as well as Tucson, Ariz. He moved back to Maine as a teenager and attended Buker School and Cony High School. At a young age, Mark began working in the drywall industry. He was also employed at Dick’s Used Trucks. He then returned to drywall as a subcontractor. He was one of the best drywall subcontractors in the area.

Mark met his wife Angela in 1993. The moment they met it was love, she was his “sweetbange”. They dated for a few years, but their lives took them separate ways for a while. Their love for each other brought them back together. She was the love of his life, and he was hers. They always said they had the greatest love story and anyone that knew them knew that was true. They were married, finally joining their families as one, in 2013.

Mark’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife and his four sons. He enjoyed camping every year at Jewett Cove with his wife and kids, his mom and dad, his grandmother “Mem”, who held a special place in his heart, his sister, Sherri and her family as well as other family and friends.

One of Mark’s greatest enjoyments in life was hunting and fishing with his four boys. He even managed to get his wife out of her stiletto shoes and into hunting boots.

He also enjoyed coaching youth football and baseball. He loved watching his boys play football, baseball, basketball, hockey, wrestling and lacrosse. Those four boys were his pride and joy.

Mark also loved being in the outdoors with his family , four-wheeling, snowmobiling, trekking in the woods to find deer sheds, wildlife tracks and scouting for the next upcoming hunting season.

He had a passion for riding his Harley and burning rubber with all his sons.

As many of you know, Mark battled with addiction. That was not what defined Mark as a person. He was a very loving husband to his wife, an amazing father to his four sons, a great friend and a hard worker. He was a great man and would do anything for anyone, especially his family.

Mark is survived by Angela, his wife of eight years but together for 16 years; four sons, Anthony Sousa, Jacob Sousa, Tyrell Sousa and Logan Sousa; a sister, Sherri Lathrop and her husband Jamie; nephews James and Kolby, nieces Mikayla and Savannah; his maternal grandmother, Judith Lovell; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Mark was expecting his first grandson in July.

Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday, June 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 17 at 9 a.m. at Central Church, 20 Mission Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta. A celebration of life will follow the burial at the American Legion, 46 Griffin St., Gardiner.
