SOUTH CHINA — Erskine Academy has announced the class of 2021 top 10 seniors. Students are listed by academic standing.

Valedictorian is Michael Nicholas III, son of Vaunalee Foster of Chelsea and Michael Nicholas II of Chelsea. He has participated in such activities as National Honor Society, Student Council, basketball, lacrosse, and golf. He has received awards of distinction in algebra 2, geometry, chemistry, physics, and calculus, and has been a Senior of the Trimester award recipient. He is also a Maine Principal’s Association Award recipient, a 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program Finalist, and a four-year honor roll recipient.

Nicholas plans to attend Northeastern University to study mechanical engineering and physics.

Jane Blanchard Contributed photo

Salutatorian is Jane Blanchard, daughter of Jean and Robert Blanchard of Hallowell. She has participated in such activities as the LEO Club, AFS (Erskine’s cultural awareness club), EA Theater, Student Council, the EA Leadership Team, field hockey, and tennis. She has also served as vice president of the class of 2021, and she has completed nearly 150 hours of community service projects. A student who has received high honor roll distinction every trimester, she was the recipient of the George Eastman Young Leaders Award.

Blanchard plans to attend the University of Maine, where she will major in nursing.

Third in academic standing is Kristin Ray, daughter of Jody and Harold Ray of Windsor. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in such activities as the EA Leadership Team, soccer, wrestling and tennis. She has received high honor roll distinction every trimester; awards of excellence in the areas of biology, social studies, and physical education; and Renaissance Recognition and Senior of the Trimester awards.

Ray plans to attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a major in psychology.

Fourth in academic standing is Sydni Plummer, daughter of Cherrie and Nick Plummer of Windsor. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in such activities as EA Theater Club, Book Club, and the Gay Straight Trans Alliance Club. She has received awards of distinction in English, integrated science, geometry, U.S. history, and French, and she has achieved four-year honor roll status. In addition, she was the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Award, and she has received Renaissance Recognition and Senior of the Trimester awards.

Plummer plans to attend the University of Maine to pursue studies in the area of biology.

Fifth in academic standing is Harry Rabideau, son of Maureen and Joseph Rabideau of Vassalboro. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a participant of the LEO Club, Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, and baseball. He has received awards of excellence in English, precalculus, social studies, and physical education, and he is a 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program Finalist.

Rabideau plans to attend the University of Miami with a major in journalism.

Delaney Ireland Contributed photo

Sixth in academic standing is Delaney Ireland, daughter of Amy and Scott Ireland of Vassalboro. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in such activities as math team, Future Business Leaders of America, the EA Leadership Team, Student Council, Youth in Government, and indoor track. She has completed more than 250 hours of community service activities.

Ireland has received awards of excellence in health and geometry, and she has received a Renaissance Recognition and Senior of the Trimester award. She is also a 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student.

Ireland plans to attend University of Maine with a major in athletic training.

Seventh in academic standing is Ian Oliphant, son of Stephanie and Trenton Oliphant of China. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in such activities as LEO Club, pep band, yearbook, and AFS, and he has completed a variety of community service projects. He is a 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student.

Oliphant plans to major in computer science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Eighth in academic standing is Samantha Box, daughter of Amanda Box of Windsor and Shawn Box of Portland. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a participant of the EA Theater Club, Book Club, and the GSTA Club. She has received high honor roll distinction every trimester, and has received awards of excellence in English, U.S. history, and Spanish.

Box plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington with a major in creative writing.

Ninth in academic standing is Isabela Libby, daughter of Tatyana Libby of Jefferson. She is a member of the National Honor Society, has participated in such activities as LEO Club, pep band, and tennis, and has completed a variety of community service projects. She has also received high honor roll distinction every trimester.

Libby plans to major in psychology at Thomas College.

Tenth in academic standing is Zoe Butler, daughter of Andrea Walls of China. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in such activities as debate team, speech team, EA Theater Club, and Youth in Government. She has earned honor roll status every trimester, and has received the Frederick Douglass & Susan B. Anthony Award.

Butler plans to major in psychology at Saint Louis University.
