OAKLAND — Messalonskee High School has announced its top 10 seniors for the class of 2021, listed by rank.

Luke A. Buck is the son of Travis and Tanya Buck of Sidney. He served as class president this year, and a captain of the lacrosse team. He has given back to his community through his involvement in the National Honor Society and his church.

Buck is a distinguished scholar and was recognized for his academic achievement as a National Merit Scholarship finalist and the College Board Rural and Small Town Recognition program. He also received the Rochester Institute of Technology award for his leadership and strong academic ability. He was a tenacious member of the math team and enjoys sharing his talent in electric guitar as well.

Buck plans to attend the University of Maine, Orono, to study engineering.

Taryn Drolet Contributed photo

Taryn M. Drolet is the son of Michael and Angel Drolet of Oakland. He earned the National Merit Scholarship as a junior, and was recognized by the College Board for the National Rural & Small Town Recognition Program award. He was an active member of the math team, placing first and second at the Central Maine Math League three years in a row.

He earned the Rensselaer Medal last year for his outstanding achievements. Drolet is a member of the National Honor Society, and spends a great deal of time outside of his studies composing and arranging music.

He plans to attend Fitchburg State University to study game design.

Emily Levesque Contributed photo

Emily P. Levesque is the daughter of Joan and Matthew Levesque of Sidney. She has participated in athletics through soccer and track and field and was a member of the math team. She has also been a dedicated and active member of the Girl Scouts of America. Levesque was named to the National Honor Society Eagle Chapter and was the recipient of the Rochester Institute of Technology Innovation and Creativity Award.

She has worked as a camp counselor in the summer months and found many ways to give back to the community. By the time she graduates, she will have successfully completed numerous Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and College courses as part of her rigorous course load.

In the fall, Levesque plans to attend the University of Maine, where she will study chemical engineering.

Ambrosina Cianfarano Contributed photo

Ambrosina C. Cianfarano is the daughter of Robert and Isabella Cianfarano of Belgrade. She is a student of the fine arts who has performed in several theatre productions, and was assistant director for one. She holds leadership positions in chorus, and band, and is a member of jazz band. She is a class representative in student government.

Cianfarano was awarded the University of Rochester Honorary Science award last year for her outstanding academic achievements. Additionally, she volunteered much of her time with Key Club and various organizations while also working for summer recreation for three years.

She plans to study business administration at the University of Southern California.

Paige R. Meader is the daughter of Melanie and Rob Meader of Belgrade. She has been a multi-sport athlete, participating in the lacrosse, indoor track and volleyball programs. She has been a member of the Key Club and completed a significant amount of community service, including hours at the humane society and food pantry. She is serving as a senior mentor to a freshman advisory and is a leader in the school.

She was selected as a junior to be a member of the National Honor Society, and was the recipient of the RIT Computing Medal during that same year. She has been on the school’s honor roll, exclusively achieving the rank of high honors with distinction, and will have completed numerous Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and College courses upon graduation.

In the fall, Meader plans to attend Fairfield University, where she will study finance.

 

Kierra Bumford Contributed photo

Kierra L. Bumford is the daughter of Scott and Kimberly Bumford of Oakland. She earned the Williams College book award last year for her intellectual leadership and contributions to the school community.

Bumford contributed her math skills as treasurer of the senior class, and as a peer tutor. She has participated in softball, basketball, and volleyball over the past four years. She enjoys mentoring with the Big Brother Big Sister program, and volunteers as a youth coach at basketball camp and youth softball clinics. She is also a senior mentor for the freshman class this year.

Bumford plans to attend the University of New England in the pre-pharmacy program.

Cloe M. Sisson is the daughter of Chad Sisson and Karen Bossie of Sidney. She has earned high honors with distinction throughout her high school career and is recognized as an AP Scholar.

Her leadership skills and dedication to her teammates earned her a captain position this year. Along with her deep commitment to the soccer team, she has also been a member of the cross country ski team and the greenhouse club. She has also been a volunteer coach and a referee for the local youth soccer program in our area.

In the fall, Sisson plans to attend Amsterdam University College in the Netherlands, with a focus of study on the sciences.

Matthew Parent Contributed photo

Matthew G. Parent is the son of Mark and Candice Parent of Oakland. He has earned high honors with distinction throughout his high school career, is recognized as an AP Scholar, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Parent has been a committed member of the varsity boys basketball and golf teams and was selected as captain of the boys basketball team, during his junior and senior years.

Along with academic accomplishments, he has earned a number of honors and awards for his athletic pursuits and character, including KVAC first and second team All-Conference for basketball and Messalonskee High School student of the month. He has worked with local youth athletic organizations as a coach and camp counselor, and has volunteered his time to support the Humane Society Waterville Area.

Parent plans to attend Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, in the fall.

Alexis Ames Contributed photo

Alexis A. Ames is the daughter of David and Kathie Ames of Belgrade. She has volunteered at a local senior center, and supported and mentored children at the local elementary school.

She has been actively involved in school and community activities as an athlete in lacrosse and volleyball, as well as through her membership in National Honor Society and Key Club. Last year, she was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa book award for her achievement in and beyond the classroom.

Ames plans to attend Kennebec Valley Community College to study marketing.

Brooke L. Martin is the daughter of Wendy and Dennis Martin of Oakland. She has been a key member of both the softball and basketball programs and has received all-conference awards in both. She has served in a leadership role and is widely respected among the conference as a leader and competitor.

She has given back to the community through the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program, and was elected to the National Honor Society as a junior, and is serving as the society’s treasurer. She has been on the school’s honor roll, exclusively achieving the rank of high honors with distinction, and will have completed numerous Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and College courses upon graduation.

In the fall, Martin plans to attend Caldwell University, where she will study biotechnology/biomedical engineering and play softball.
