Barbara L. McKechnie

PITTSTON – Barbara L. McKechnie, 81, died at Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation on June 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Gardiner on Nov. 2, 1939.

She was raised by her adoptive mother, Annie B. Chapman. She lived in Pittston most of her life, attending the one room schoolhouse in Pittston.

She worked in several positions at local nursing homes. She always loved caring for others, including home health care and childcare.

Throughout her life, Barbara enjoyed hunting, fishing, horse pulling, dancing, her pets, stock car racing, gardening and farming.

She was predeceased by her adoptive mother, Annie B. Chapman, mother Minnie Chapman, father Forrest Matson; her son Everett Chapman and his wife Mary Chapman; her sister Dorothy Johnson, brothers Forrest Matson, Jr. and Clarence Matson; her special aunt Laura Kidder and uncle Arnold Kidder.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Ellis and her husband Patrick Ellis, Sr. and Carol Markham, sons, Jeffrey McKechnie and wife Karen McKechnie, Randy McKechnie and life partner Dawn True and Mark McKechnie and partner Cindy Morin; and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Putnam Cemetery in Pittston at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the medical and nursing staff of both Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation and Beacon Hospice Care, as well as the many family and close friends who helped in her last few days of life. We are so grateful for all of your compassion, love and support.
