Ruth Tyler Cusick

HALLOWELL – Ruth Tyler Cusick, 92 of Hillside Terrace passed away peacefully on Friday, June 18, 2021.

She was born on August 29, 1928 in Farmingdale, the daughter of Lewis and Lura Palmer Tyler.

She attended Farmingdale schools, entering the workforce at a young age in South Gardiner.

She married Richard Cusick in June of 1951 and raised a family of two sons in Hayford Heights in Farmingdale. After being a stay-at-home mom for many years, she worked outside the home as a food service worker at the Hall-Dale Middle School. She loved her job and the kids she served.

Ruth enjoyed cross-stitching, doing puzzles, painting and was an avid walker for years at the YMCA with her friends. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and Sacred Heart Church. Ruth was devoted to her family, her sons and her grandson. She was loved by everyone who knew her.

She is predeceased by her husband, Richard; two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her two sons, Terrance and his wife Carol of West Gardiner and Timothy and his wife Thelma of Gardiner; grandson, Timothy Cusick Jr. of Augusta; sister, Margaret Greeley of Augusta; three step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Shelly Couture of Augusta.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hillside Terrace in Hallowell and Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice and the Androscoggin Hospice House for their excellent care and compassion for Ruth.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, June 24 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a brief service will follow at 6 p.m. A reception immediately following the service will be held at the Gardiner Elks Club. Committal in Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner will be on Friday, June 25 at 9 a.m.
