Congratulations to School Administrative District 11 Curriculum Coordinator Angela Hardy and her committee for their selection of 33 superb scholarly books (“Gardiner-area community in uproar over AP English summer reading book list,” June 18). English faculty from America‘s select universities would be hard-pressed to improve upon these choices for a high school AP language and composition course!
Although my wife and I were university faculty for 35 years, we continue to read books of this genre to better understand the social structure of our beloved country. Many of these well-written, non-fiction books will help to prepare these future college students for their college careers on multi-racial campuses, as well as their professional lives.
