Will Mainers ever be satisfied? I doubt it.

They don’t want the Corridor project, but they want green power to reduce our carbon footprint. Hydro-Quebec’s project would alleviate New England’s carbon footprint substantially. The hunters, fishermen, and others who recreate outdoors will be able to access the Great North Woods even better in that 45-mile region.

Now they want Pine Tree Power, a Maine government-run power utility. Do you really think you can force two private utilities to sell? Dream on. Think twice, the selling price would be more too high. And who is going to end up paying that? The Maine taxpayer.

One of the best Christmases I have ever had was working on Islesboro in 2017 for three days over that holiday due to a terrible ice storm along the coast. I was away from home for the very first time in 41 years of employment on Christmas Eve and Day to help with the effort of restoration. What a wonderful show of appreciation when the locals fired up their gas stoves and generators to make us the best hot meal on Christmas Day at the Community Center. Everyone you passed on the island would give a wave of appreciation for our time away from family.

Also the ice storm of 1998 brought out the true team effort all across the state to restore power as quickly as possible despite the conditions.

Good luck finding the dedication, despite the conditions, of a group of men and women such as CMP employees. Walk in their steel-toe boots all day, wear their protective clothing on sweltering days and in ice-cold temperatures before you throw away the reliability of your electric service, day and night, 24/7. Try wearing a raincoat and bibs for 17 hours during a sweltering, humid thunderstorm.
