Marilyn Louise (Hews) Wishart

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Marilyn Louise (Hews) Wishart, 85, passed away June 13, 2021, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., with her daughter, Susan (Wishart) Fischbein, by her side. Her sudden death surprised the family, as she had been enjoying life to its fullest a few days prior.

Marilyn was born in Waterville, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Velma (Hews) Lundbeck and Clarence Hews. She attended Clinton Maine public schools, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1953.

In the fall 1953, she married Charles R. Wishart, her high school sweetheart. Together, they started a family in Clinton Maine, having two children, a boy (Robert Wishart) and a girl (Susan Wishart). In 1962, they relocated to Presque Isle. For the past six winters she has lived with her daughter Susan (Wishart) Fischbein, and Susan’s husband Richard Fischbein, after spending her summers in Presque Isle.

For many years she worked as a bookkeeper for Happy Cooking Gas (acquired by Amerigas), and she retired in 2001. She and her husband Charles belonged to the Presque Isle Spud Shufflers Square Dancers and loved their camp at Sco Pan lake.

Friends and family were always welcomed to coming to the camp. An extra swimsuit would always be available, along with boat rides, water-skiing, fishing, card games and jigsaw puzzles. Television was never allowed at the camp.

Marilyn also loved going to the family farm in Clinton. As many as possible worked together in the kitchen, in the garden, or in the barn. There was never a dull moment at the farm.

In the year 2000, her husband Charles had a terrible stroke. Never complaining, Marilyn took care of Charles until he passed way in 2016. After 2016, Marilyn stayed at home, keeping a watchful eye on him while also socializing with neighbors and doing puzzles at home. Marilyn did enjoy occasional afternoon outings at the Gathering Place, where she would play cards during her last few summers in Presque Isle.

Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Susan (Wishart) Fischbein and her husband Richard Fischbein of Harvey’s Lake, Pa., and one daughter-in-law, Danya (James) Wishart of Presque Isle. Marilyn is also survived by two sisters, Martha Bisson of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Meredith Trask of Clinton. Marilyn had two living sisters-in-laws and their husbands, Cynthia and Max Raye, in Bangor, and Cyndra and Dennis Knowles of Detroit, Maine. Marilyn had four grandchildren: Ryan Wishart and his wife Jessica Wishart of Soldier Pond, Shane Wishart and his fiancé Amber Voisine of Soldier Pond, Emily (Fischbein) Piazza and her husband Greg Piazza of Dallas, Pa., and Rachel Fischbein and her husband Sven Jonas Grankvist of Fairfax, Calif. Marilyn had four great-grandchildren: Brylee and Ridge Wishart and Oliver and Sedona Piazza.

Marilyn was preceded in death in by her husband, Charles Wishart, her son, Robert Wishart, and her mother, Velma Lundbeck.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Rest Cemetery in Clinton. At Marilyn’s request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements by Daniel J. Hughes Funeral and Cremation Service.
