Domesticated rabbits are being released in Madison and Skowhegan. One is near Spruce Street in Madison and there are two off Court Street in Skowhegan.
Domesticated rabbits have been man-dependent for at least a hundred years and continue to do so. Letting them loose is an eventual death sentence. Tame rabbits cannot fend for themselves as they will lack proper nutrition and care. They definitely won’t survive the winter.
Spruce Street in Madison has another issue — a fox. It is there solely for cats, as we have seen him chasing them. Foxes are not rabbit friendly.
Please, if you have rabbits as pets and don’t want them, please take them to a shelter, as that will at least give them a chance to live and get adopted. Releasing them is cruel and heartless.
