CANTON — A middle-aged male logger, whose name was not released, was pinned against some logs he was cutting resulting in “significant injuries to his left torso,” and flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center, Rumford Fire Chief Chris Reed said on Tuesday.

The trapped logger was able to reach his cell phone to call 911 late Tuesday morning but since he was located far in the woods, it took First Responders about 55 minutes to reach him, Chief Reed said. After he was located it took the rescuers an hour and 15 minutes to extricate him.

Area fire departments from Canton, Rumford and Mexico, as well as the Oxford County game warden, attended the accident Tuesday morning just before noon. “It was really a team event, first responders did a really great job with tough conditions; mud and high temperatures,” Chief Reed said.
