Mark R. Strout

CHELSEA – Mark R. Strout, 25, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 17, 2021. Born on April 28, 1996, the son of Randy Strout and Julie Merrill. Raised in Chelsea, Mark known to most as Spanky, was a graduate of Gardiner Area High School and CATC where he studied auto body.

After high school, Spanky went on to run the family business with his dad Randy at Win-Ro Towing. Spanky was a “jack of all” trades. Mechanic work, carpentry, auto body, you name it, he could do it all. He even worked in the lumber yard with his brothers.

If Spanky wasn’t working, you could find him outdoors. He had a tremendous love for everything and anything that meant being outside. Whether he was enjoying his time with family and friends or his dog Chevy, he was always on the go. Spanky enjoyed the mud runs with his dad and together they brought home numerous amounts of trophies. They even took a “spur of the moment” trip and drove all the way down to Florida to see how they did the mud runs in the “dirty south”!! He also loved to fish, whether he was out on the water with his brother Brett or chasing flags on the ice with friends. Along with fishing, Spanky also enjoyed snowmobiling, participating in the demolition derby, hunting and loved shooting his guns. In his down time if he wasn’t working, playing in the mud, hunting or fishing, you could find him ripping up the trails on one of his 3-wheelers or dirt bikes and headed to the campsite. Spanky truly had a love for life and enjoyed every minute of it.

Spanky had a heart of gold. Whether you needed someone to talk to or someone just to listen, whatever it was, he was there. He was an amazing person to be around. To say he was the “life of the party” would be an understatement. You could be mad as hell or down in the dumps and that kid could make you smile in an instant or laugh hysterically.

Spanky is survived by his dad and best friend, Randy Strout of Chelsea; his mother Julie Merrill of Gardiner; his grandfather Robert Strout of Chelsea; his brothers Evan Strout of Chelsea, Brett Strout of Windsor, Branden Merrill and Tyler Merrill of Gardiner and Noah Amadon of Leeds; his sisters Natasha Strout of Augusta and Tamra Strout of Windsor; his three nieces, Briana Strout and Makenzi Strout of Windsor and Alisha Wilson of Augusta; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless number of friends.

There will be a celebration of life held for Spanky on Saturday July 31, 1 p.m. at the Legion on Route17/Eastern Avenue in Augusta.

Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner where condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home website familyfirstfuneralhomes.com.
