PITTSFIELD — On the first weekend in August, Maine Central Institute plans to celebrate a double reunion and welcome alumni and friends back to the Pittsfield campus.

Since MCI was not able to hold a reunion last year, this year the institute will honor two 50th reunion classes: the class of 1970 and the class of 1971.

The reunion will begin Friday, Aug. 6, with the Alumni Association Golf Scramble at 8 a.m. at the JW Parks Golf Course in Pittsfield. An awards celebration will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Savage Family Dining Room, where Hall of Fame inductees Peter “Andi” Vigue ’89 and Ed Miller, together with Distinguished Achievement Award recipients Chris Crowley ’70, Larry Morton ’67, and Cindy Morton ‘70 (posthumously), will be honored.

Following the awards celebration, an all-alumni party is to be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday in the Trustee Memorial Student Center and patio area. Because of ongoing construction on campus, including Founders Hall and other buildings on campus, the all-alumni party will not be held on the front campus under the tent.

On Saturday, a reunion breakfast is set from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Savage Family Dining Room, before alumni go on tours of campus, have alumni association meetings, and spend time with classmates.

A rededication of the Ronald and Susan Friend Weight Room will take place at 10 a.m. in Parks Gym, where there will also be historic MCI displays, a model of campus, and reunion class year displays by the class agents.

The Alumni Association annual meeting will take place at 11 a.m. in Parks Gym. The reunion lunch festivities, sponsored by Gregg Patterson ’69, to celebrate and honor his mother, Alice Shaw Patterson ’48, will begin at 1 p.m. on the Boutelle Savage lawn under the tent. Most of the on-campus activities will conclude at about 3 p.m.

Following the on-campus events, MCI alumni and friends will go to various class gatherings throughout the area.
