Clark Eugene Rawson

AUGUSTA – Clark entered heaven on June 23, 2021 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta, ME. The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding dedication of the staff including nurses, CNA’s, administrative personnel and the kitchen crew. Clark felt welcomed, safe, and well cared for.Clark was born in Los Angeles, CA, the second child of Charles Lawrence Rawson and Henrietta Linn Rawson. He grew up in Carlsbad, CA, and graduated from Oceanside-Carlsbad Union High School class of 1946.During and after high school Clark had various jobs in the area, including the Irwin Kelly Ranch and the Wilson Ranch. Clark spent much time with his Wilson cousins and family and had fond memories of learning important life lessons from his Uncle Charlie and Aunt Ruth.Clark made his profession of faith in God during this time. This was an important decision in his life. He was a man of strong faith and excellent character. He was an activate participant in many different churches, holding a variety of positions. Since 1973 Clark was a member of the Gideons International.While in college Clark was drafted into the military. He completed basic training as well as an 8-week Officer Training and Leadership school at Fort Ord, CA. He served in the 6th Army Infantry Division between November 1950 and October 1952 during the Korean conflict. Clark was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant.A graduate of Westmont College (class of 1954) in Santa Barbara, CA, Clark earned a B.S. degree in Natural Sciences/Chemistry.On Mother’s Day 1955 while visiting his parents in Carlsbad, Clark met his future bride, Beverly Joyce Pratt of Auburn, ME. A special event was planned by Clark’s mother and Beverly’s sister Helen. Later that same year Clark married Beverly on December 31, 1955 at Covina Baptist Church. They honeymooned in Idyllwild, CA at a cabin in the mountains.After starting a family in California and five years of marriage, the couple frequently traveled to and lived in many other places, from Maine to Florida to California to Washington and elsewhere. Due to Clark’s job, they lived a year in Tehran, Iran and two years in La Paz, Bolivia. The Rawson family gained many lifelong friends during their travels.Clark had a career of over 50 years in the telecommunications field. He began as a lineman and advanced through positions to Senior Outside Plant Engineer with a variety of companies. Clark felt he was very fortunate to be a part of the many changes in the telecom world. From engineering with NASA in the early 1960’s at Merritt Island, FL to providing communications for the Titan III rocket launch pad, to installing internet, phone and cable tv in the early 90’s at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In the late 90’s he worked with Sprint burying fiber optic cable Boston to Seatle.Clark retired at age 72. He and Beverly lived at their home in Anson, ME for 25 years.Clark is predeceased by his first wife Ruth Meeker Rawson (1954), and his second wife of 59 years Beverly Pratt Rawson (2015), his sister Carol Goodin and brother Gerald Rawson.Clark is survived by his five children, Rebecca D. Anderson, Steven C. Rawson and his wife Diane, Eva M. Davis and her husband David, Melissa S. Spinney and her husband Clayton II, and Charles M. Rawson, grandchildren Andrew Rawson, Rhiannon Davis, Eli Saville and Ethan Saville.A memorial service will be held later this summer at the First Congregational Church, 21 Elm St., N. Anson, ME, Reverend David Walz officiating. Funeral services are provided by Giberson Funeral Home, Madison, ME.Clark will be buried with his wife Beverly at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta, ME.Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
