WATERVILLE — Fr. Sebastian White, a Dominican friar, is to present “Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Peace of Soul: I Will Give You Rest” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1.
All are welcome to attend at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, 101 Silver St.
White since 2018 has served as editor of Magnificat, a monthly publication designed for daily use that encourages liturgical and personal prayer. Each edition contains a greeting and editorial on something of spiritual significance from White, as well as blessings and prayers, hymns, meditations on the Gospel, essays from a variety of contributors in the Catholic community, and art commentaries.
A native of Waterville, White graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, with a degree in economics.
After college, he lived in Austria for four years: two studying at the International Theological Institute, and two working for the Franciscan University of Steubenville’s study abroad program. During his time there, he first encountered the Order of Preachers (also known as the Dominican Order) in Vienna.
In 2008, White entered the novitiate for the Province of St. Joseph, and in 2014 was ordained to the priesthood at St. Dominic Church in Washington, D.C.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
