BUCKFIELD — Oxford County Sheriff’s deputies were searching into the night Tuesday for Neil Roy Canney, 52, of Greene and Hartford and Selena Canney, 49, of Hartford, who have been accused of assaulting Edwin Bennett, 67, of Buckfield early Tuesday morning.

According to deputies, Oxford County Communications Center received an emergency 911 call at 1:20 a.m. from a female reporting there was a man at her residence on Bennett Road with stab wounds. There, police said, they found 67-year-old Edwin Bennett of Buckfield, who had suffered blunt force trauma and multiple stab wounds to his chest.

Rescue personnel transported Bennett to Central Maine Medical Center where he underwent surgery, police said. Police added that Bennett was treated and released from the Central Maine Medical Center early Tuesday evening.

According to police, Neil Canney and Selena Canney entered Bennett’s home and forced him at gunpoint to enter another part of the house. While inside the residence, Bennett was beaten with a handgun and stabbed, police said.

Bennett escaped to his neighbor’s house, who called 911, according to deputies.

Neil Canney and Selena Canney left the area driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox registered to Neil Canney, police said. The vehicle is described as grey in color with Maine registration plates 8002YF.

Arrest warrants for Neil Canney and Selena Canney have been issued for aggravated assault. Both subjects are considered armed and dangerous and are believed to be traveling together, police said. They were last seen in the Bethel area around 4 a.m. on Tuesday. Anyone with information on their location are asked to contact police.

Deputies were assisted by the Maine Wardens Service, Maine State Police and Paris Police Department.
