Zachary Sebastian Bliss

READFIELD – Zachary Sebastian Bliss, 49, beloved son of Dale and Ranae Bliss, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Readfield, Maine, on July 14, 2021. Zach was born on Aug. 19, 1971, and graduated from Maranacook High School in 1989. He studied at the University of Maine System, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English.

He is survived by his grandparents, Fred and Catherine Bliss of Gorham, Maine, his brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Jennifer Bliss, and his aunts and uncles Susan Mahoney, Amy and Robert Farrell, Linda and Fred Gay, Angela and Andrew Burgess, and Lisa Smart Hilliard and husband. He also leaves behind several cousins, a nephew and niece, countless friends, and his best companion Zeke, an Australian Shepherd.

Zach had a huge heart, a great smile, and a big personality. His passions were many and included sports such as Boston Bruins hockey; music ranging from Jimmy Buffett to Townes Van Zant; literature, art, and singing classic songs with friends no matter the occasion. Zeke and Ponzi, his rescue Aussies, loved him as much as he loved them. Oh, the many tennis balls worn out or lost from playing catch with his dogs.

Zach’s gift was teaching children because he could reach them at their level. Zach would throw footballs and bat baseballs to his brother across the driveway. They turned a myriad of double plays, ran a thousand-wheel routes and pop passes, and smashed a hundred home runs during whiffle ball tournaments. His brother is eternally grateful for these bonding moments.

Zach’s heart was always with family and friends. His grandparents were always there for him through trips to Pemaquid, Saddleback Mountain, and even Arizona. Zach’s friends stretch from Maine to Florida to Oregon and in between. His adventurous stories were filled with laughter, yet another gift of his through conversation. In short, Zach freed his time to talk with you versus talking to you in his free time.

Zach had many occupations ranging from restaurateur, moving company owner, and salesperson. His occupational strength fulfilled someone’s need through conversation, laughter, relocation, or connection with another business.

Zach’s celebration day will be Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, at Duck Puddle Campground in Nobleboro, Maine. We will celebrate Zach through love, stories, laughter, song, and food. We love him, miss him, and cherish the memories for the rest of our days.
