I wish every high school and college student in Maine could see the Monmouth Community Players’ production of “The Laramie Project.” Perhaps Maine state education and arts directors could devise a way to have the work on weekends, once a month, in central locations throughout the state.
Discussions could follow the play, and there would be no end of creative assignments and investigation the play would generate.
Maine and the nation are discussing hate, violence, community, gender, homophobia, social class and many other contemporary issues. “The Laramie Project” has them all this magnificently acted work.
Here’s hoping the play circulates in the Pine Tree State. What better way to honor Matthew Shepard’s dignity and humanity.
