Kathleen Marie (Willette) Kluzak

AUBURN – On July 25, 2021, Kathleen Marie Kluzak of Winthrop passed away at the Androscoggin Hospice House to be with her family and friends who have gone before her.

Kathleen “Kathy” was born May 21, 1944 in Webster, Mass., second of three children to Edward and Cecelia Willette also of Webster, Mass. Kathy was raised in Webster and attended St. Louis School. She then went on to take business courses at Ward’s Business School in Worcester, Mass.

Following her education at Ward’s, she pursued a career in retail finance and later banking at the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union in Winthrop. Kathy married David Kluzak and the two raised four children together before separating.

Kathy’s faith was always very important to her, and she participated in many activities within the Catholic Church. She enjoyed being with her family and friends no matter what the occasion, especially being with her grandchildren. Kathy was the definition of selfless dedication which she demonstrated every day in raising her four children, especially her son with special needs, James “Jim”. Kathy participated in all of Jim’s schooling and activities including volunteering and supporting the Special Olympics.

Kathy enjoyed golf, arts and crafts where she would keep her hands and mind busy with beautiful artful paintings, sewing, stained glass, scrapbooking, stamping, gardening, baking and cooking, and anything else she could get her hands on. Kathy, like her mother, was most well known by family and friends for her pierogies which she always made for holiday gatherings – there were never any leftovers!

Kathy is survived by her children Kristine Schnupp and her husband Joe of Gorham, John Kluzak and his wife Martha of Monmouth, and James Kluzak of Winthrop; her five grandchildren Kaitlinn Kluzak of Corona Del Mar, Calif., Sarah, Patrick, and Erin Schnupp of Gorham, and Caleb Kluzak of Virginia Beach, Va. She is also survived by her older sister, Maryanne Spiewakowski and her husband Francis of Thompson, Conn. and their two daughters Lisa Frattura and her husband Roberto of Florence, Italy and Sue Spiewakoski and her partner John Olender of Ashford, Conn.; sister-in-law, Sandra Willette of Holliston, Mass.; and cousin, Bernard Perry of Minneapolis.

Kathy is predeceased by her parents; her younger brother, Richard Willette; her youngest son, Kevin Kluzak and his wife Amanda; and her ex-husband, David Kluzak.

Kathy’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of the Lewiston Kidney Center, St. Mary’s Hospital, D’Youville Pavilion, and the Androscoggin Hospice House for the compassionate care provided as Kathy closed this chapter of her life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 6 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop.
