BANGOR — Penobscot Theatre Company has issued an open casting call for youth roles in its 2021-22 season.

Extending from November through July, the season includes six professional productions with a variety of roles available. Any age individuals able to read as aged 10 to 18 and wanting to be considered for such roles are encouraged to attend.

Auditions are set to take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, and 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at 51 Main St. Those who audition will be scheduled in seven-minute slots.

Individuals should prepare a two-minute contemporary monologue and bring a headshot and resume stapled together. For younger performers, a simple list of any theatre/dance experience and school photo will be accepted. Vocalists should be prepared to sing a short section of a song of their choosing.

Live accompaniment will not be provided, so people are asked to come prepared with a track and audio player, such as a phone or iPod. Speaker hook up through standard auxiliary output or lightning adapters will be available. Cold readings from provided material may also be requested.

“Not only are we looking forward to welcoming patrons back to the theatre, we are excited to invite performers of all ages into the audition room,” said Acting Artistic Director Tricia Hobbs, according to a news release from the company. “We have such talented young artists in this area, we wanted to create a welcoming audition opportunity specifically for them to come out, meet the new administration, and have fun.”

Requests can take up to five days to process and time/day preferences will be filled as received. Additional adult and full open casting calls will be announced at a later date. Individuals of all backgrounds and identities are encouraged to attend.

Callbacks will take place throughout the fall.

Because of current COVID-19 safety measures, Penobscot Theatre Company will only reserve in-person audition times for fully vaccinated individuals at this time. Any person who is not yet fully vaccinated or unable to be vaccinated, but would like to be considered for later roles can make arrangements for digital submission.
