Brainard Irwin Tripp

EMBDEN – Brainard Irwin Tripp passed on to his eternal home on July 7, 2021.

Brainard was born on Nov. 6, 1937 in Skowhegan, Maine, the son of Maurice and Alta (Gray) Tripp. He grew up in Norridgewock and attended school there, graduating from Skowhegan High School, class of 1956.

He served in the Maine Army National Guard and the United States Marine Corps ending his military service in 1960. He received a BS in education from Farmington State Teachers College in 1965. He received a Masters degree in school administration in 1971 from the university of Maine at Orono.

A life long educator he worked for thirty-two years in Bangor, Hamden and Newburgh Schools as a teacher and administrator retiring in 1997. In 2002, he moved to Embden and his interest in his community led him to serve one year on the Embden Board of Assessors. Brainard was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gun collecting, and observing wildlife. He was interested in Maine history and geography, and truly delighted in exploring in Maine’s back country roads.

Brainard was a member and past president of Bangor Education Association, the Eastern Maine Farmington Alumni Association, the Farmington Alumni Association, the Eastern Maine Principals Association, and the Embden Pond Association. He was a life member of the Norridgewock Historical Society and the National Education Association, active and retired. He held memberships in the Embden Historical Society, the National Rifle Association, the Maine Education Association, the Somerset Retired Teachers Association, the Maine Retired Teachers Association, and the Maine Association of Retirees. He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of North Anson.

Brainard is survived by his loving wife Charlene and their son Shawn, two grandchildren, Devin and Kelsey, His daughter Tammy, son-in-law Jim and two grandchildren, Megan and Andrew.

His passion for life lives on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. A celebration of his life will be held at the Community United Methodist Church of North Anson on August 20, 2021 at 10 a.m.
