Vesta T. Holt

PITTSFIELD – Vesta T. Holt, 95 of Pittsfield, passed away at Woodland’s Assisted Living Center on August 5, 2021, in Waterville.

Vesta is survived by her sons, John J. Thompson Jr. (Noreen) of New York, Robert E. Thompson of Ohio, and Kenneth A. Thompson (Margaret) of Maine, her daughter, Joyce Warner (Dennis) of Virginia, her stepsons Ezra Holt (Jeanna) of Maine, Frank Holt Jr. of Maine and Leroy Holt of Maine, her stepdaughters Ila Libby (David) of Maine and Anne Holt of North Carolina. She is survived by 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, John J. Thompson Sr. and her second husband, Frank Holt Sr.; as well as her daughter-in-law, Deborah Thompson; and her siblings Charles (Nettie) Shoemaker, Burton (Geraldine) Shoemaker, Hilda (Harry) Valk, and Florence (James) Jepsen.

Vesta was born on Jan. 19, 1926, in Kingston, N.Y. to parents Lena and Elmer Shoemaker. She graduated from Kingston High School. She worked many jobs, including a position at Rome Army Airfield in New York, the New York Telephone Company, and Ulster Savings Bank in New York.

Vesta was a loving wife and mother who always put her family first. She leaves behind a legacy of strong faith in God and active service in the church.

She married John Thompson in 1946 and they raised their family in West Hurley, N.Y. before transferring with IBM to Tucson, Ariz. After the loss of her husband, Vesta moved to Pittsfield to be closer to family. She joined the Pittsfield Tuesday Club, where she became treasurer, and she volunteered at Sebasticook Valley Hospital.

Vesta joined the Pittsfield Seniors Club, where she later met and married her second husband, Frank Holt Sr. in 2006. Vesta was a very social and active woman for the majority of her life. She enjoyed a good game of bowling and cribbage, crocheting, knitting, and fishing. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Waterville. She will be missed by all who loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 1 p.m., at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 36 Cool St., Waterville. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will be at a later time at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz.
