LEWISTON — The 5th annual “Pain to Power: Motorcycle Ride for Suicide Awareness” event is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 29.

Participants should meet up at 9 a.m. at L/A Harley Davidson at 839 Main St. The ride will begin at 11:30 a.m. from L/A Harley Davidson and will plan to return at 12:30 p.m. at the starting point for a benefit fundraiser that includes live music and raffles.

The event will include a motorcade of at least 200 motorcycles and motorcycle enthusiasts, banding together to ride as a pack to increase awareness of suicide and its aftereffects. Event organizers will make comments to participants following the ride, followed by coffee pastries and a chance to share stories of lost friends and family.

Event organizer Nick Danforth started the ride to help others suffering from the after effects of suicide. Danforth lost his father David to suicide in 2015, and shortly afterward started the ride to highlight the issue of suicide and turn his pain into power.

All proceeds go to benefit the Maine Veterans Project.
