Edward G. Kozma

PITTSTON – Edward G. Kozma, 63, of Pittston, passed away on August 20, 2021, at the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Bethpage, New York, on Dec. 25, 1957, and was one of 11 children of Andrew and Phyllis (Osborn) Kozma.

Edward grew up in Westbury, N.Y., and was considered very bright, skipping multiple grades in grammar school. He was an amazing writer and athlete participating in football, wrestling, lacrosse, and track. After high school, he attended community college and North Carolina State University. Edward was a man of many trades, running his own small businesses while working in restaurants in Arizona, North Carolina, New York, and Maine. In his early twenties, he worked on oil fields in Louisiana, resorts in Sun Valley, Idaho, and Puppy Palace in New York, where he met his wife, Stephanie.

Edward settled in Pittston in 1989, where he worked at Capital Computers as a network salesman in Augusta for 20 years. He truly enjoyed his time there. He was a lifelong learner reading endlessly about science, religion, and understanding people. Edward enjoyed hiking, caring for animals, old movies, reading aloud to his family, and cooking and baking, including his grandmother’s egg nog recipe at Christmas, which he shared with the community at large.

Edward loved being with his family and family gatherings. As a proud parent of three Gardiner Tiger athletes, he was passionate about supporting his children’s athletic pursuits. Edward ensured that their education always took priority, and he championed his sons through their endeavors to become eagle scouts. He was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Joseph’s Choir and Sunday School teacher. Edward was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Canabas Council (#1299) and served as the bingo caller for many years. He always wanted to be the best at what he undertook; he bettered the people around him and was an amazing leader. Edward was an honest man who was never afraid of a challenge, and he loved his family deeply.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Kozma; mother, Phyllis Kozma; son, Liam Kozma and wife Erin Kozma, son, Sean Kozma, daughter, Emily Cattley and husband Alex Cattley; niece, Heather Frandsen; sister, Margaret Spier and brothers, David, Bobby, Richard, Peter, Donald, Thomas, Christopher, and local Stephen Kozma and wife Kathy Kozma, and brother-in-law Jeffrey Egert and wife Donna Egert.

He was predeceased by his eldest brother, William Kozma, and his father.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 27, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Gardiner.
