SKOWHEGAN — Local police arrested an Oxford man on a warrant, according to a news release from the Skowhegan Police Department.
Monday around 11 a.m., Skowhegan police officer Joshua York was contacted by Detective Sgt. Zachary Bisson of the Oxford Police Department about a warrant for Joshua Akerman, 31, of Oxford, on charges of domestic violence and domestic violence terrorizing.
Akerman is a Walmart truck driver and had checked into the Skowhegan Walmart. Akerman was known to carry a 9 mm handgun. York joined other Skowhegan officers and Somerset County Sheriff’s Office deputies to surround Akerman’s tractor-trailer and called him out, arresting him without further incident.
Akerman said he had left the handgun in his personal vehicle. He was then transported to Somerset County Jail, and he will be transported back to Oxford County.
“I would like to thank the Sheriff’s (Office) for assisting the Skowhegan Police Department, and (I am) extremely happy Joshua was arrested without incident,” said Skowhegan Police Chief David Bucknam in the statement.
