The art of Jeanelle Demers and the photography of Daniel J. Marquis is on display through the month of September at the Woman’s Hospital Association Rotating Art Gallery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Demers is a professional portrait artist who specializes in paintings of animals, especially dogs, cats, and birds. She creates custom pet portraits by commission, to immortalize memories of the special animals in people’s lives. Working with a reference photo and acrylic paint on canvas, she uses vivid colors and a high level of detail to create vibrant and realistic paintings, evoking the essence of each subject and capturing the twinkle in their eyes.

Marquis is a self-taught photographer who has attended a landscape photography workshop at Yosemite National Park and has had several images published in Nature Photography Magazine. “My interest in photography was sparked by my love of nature and the outdoors. I have been an avid bird watcher and kayaker for some twenty years. Both of these pursuits afford me many photo
opportunities. My favorite types of photography are birds, nature close-ups, landscapes and cityscapes … opposite ends of the photographic spectrum. Landscape photography allows me to show the grand picture, the scenes that people pass daily, but may not see. With my close-up images I try to illustrate the patterns and colors that nature offers to those who are willing to take the time to look for them.”

The works on display may be purchased through the WHA Gift Shop located adjacent to the main lobby at Central Maine Medical Center. As a result of the hospital safety precautions due to the pandemic, the art gallery is only available for viewing for staff, patients, and their designated visitors at this time. A percentage of sale proceeds benefits patients of CMMC.
