An Augusta man has been charged with arson in connection with a garage fire set over the weekend, authorities said late Monday.

The man who was charged, Peter Wing, 59, lived at the property where the blaze occurred, according to a news release from Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The garage fire was reported at 7:48 p.m. Saturday at 41 State St. and the Augusta Fire Department responded. Responding crews extinguished the flames and determined everyone was safe.
Meanwhile, the Office of State Fire Marshal was contacted to determine the cause, and investigators concluded it had been intentionally set. Wing, who lived at the property, was responsible for setting the fire, investigators allege.
Wing was arrested on a charge of arson, which is a Class A felony crime, and taken to the Kennebec County jail in Augusta.
The Augusta Fire Department and the Augusta Police Department assisted the fire marshal’s office with the investigation.
