Thomas O. Merrill

FARMINGTON – Thomas O. Merrill, 78, passed away on Sept. 9, 2021, at Pinewood Terrace in Farmington. He was born on Sept. 1, 1943 in Bingham. Over the years, he worked in the woods throughout Northern Maine, at North Anson Reel, and for the Madison/Anson Water District. Tom loved tinkering, as you could tell when you walked into his “neat as a pin” garage, having five to six of every tool you could imagine, all in their designated spot. He loved yard-saling and antiquing, always looking for a good deal. He loved going to visit old friends, and to visit friends who worked at the dump, where they would let him look around to see what treasures he could find. Tom and Nancy, enjoyed coming to the family get-togethers, or getting plates made up for them if they were not up to coming. Uncle Tommy continued to do this after Nancy passed. He liked telling us stories of his life, and he loved his sweets and chips, especially needhams and peanut butter fudge.Tom is survived by his nieces, Donna Churchill and husband Charlie of Madison, Michelle Nile and husband Paul of Madison; Nancy’s daughter and children, Cindy Storer, Amanda and Evan of Emden; several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters and their spouses, Lillian and Gilbert Jackson, Lydia and David Helton; his biological parents, Sylvia and Thomas Bigelow; his adoptive parents, Herbert and Lottie Merrill; most recently his niece, Rhonda Cole; and longtime partner, Nancy Gagnon, who he missed terribly.Uncle Tommy did not want a service or any big to-do. He liked things simple. Any celebration of life will be publicized at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, ME 04938.
