CAMDEN — A 34-year-old Camden man was arrested Wednesday, accused of holding a woman against her will for more than a week and sexually assaulting her.

Richard J. Ellis was arrested and charged with Class A kidnapping, Class A gross sexual assault, Class B aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of criminal threatening and violating a condition of release.
According to Camden Police Detective Sgt. Curt Andrick, shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a home on Park Street for a report of a female in distress. Camden police met with the woman and contacted an ambulance.
An investigation was started by Detective Sergeant Andrick. From the investigation, it was found that the victim was held against her will in the Park Street residence for more than a week. During this time, the suspect took the victims cell phone, car keys and glasses away.
During the incident, the victim was assaulted numerous times, according to police. During the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the Park Street residence. An arrest warrant was obtained for Ellis.
At the Park Street residence, several officers of the Camden Police and Rockport Police Department assisted in securing the residence in anticipation of the search and arrest warrants.
NorthEast Mobile Health responded, treated and transported the victim to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Ellis was arrested by Camden Police and brought to the Knox County Jail. He remains held there and is expected to make his initial appearance in the Knox County court Friday afternoon, Sept. 17.
