BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – It is with great sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Karl William Nielsen, 72, of Bridgeport, Conn. He passed away in September 2020 at his residence.His memorial will take place on Friday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m., at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta. We will celebrate his life with a lunch afterwards with close family.Karl was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on April 13, 1948. He was the third son to the late May Louise (Marsh) and second son to the late, William Emil Nielsen. He had a loving extended family including his cousins, aunts and uncles, grandmother, Sarah and he had a close relationship with his uncle Paul.Karl will be missed by his son, John T. Nielsen in Richmond; his sister, Evelyn in Montreal, Qc., his nieces: Gail, Liz, Beverly and Julie and their families in the Montreal area. He also leaves behind his brother, Rick (Dolly) and family from Richmond, Mich. He was proceeded in death by his brothers: Roger from Montreal, Qc. (2014) and William from Gardiner, Maine (2020).He enjoyed his yearly adventures in October to New York City with Gail, Nat, Tony and Evelyn and family and summer adventures with Liz, Titus and Katrina and Evelyn and family to various places in Connecticut. He loved to eat at Andros Dinner and take a stroll to the seaside park beach.Karl was known by all as a kind man. He was quiet and funny. If he wasn’t working or out, he could be found having a nap or walking around Bridgeport. He was friendly, honest, and thoughtful. Karl liked to listen to rock and roll. He liked science fiction shows on television.Karl graduated from Shelton High school in 1967. Then, Karl served in the U.S. Army in South Korea for two years (1968-1970), where he served as a cook. On his return from the Army, he worked as a cook at a hospital in Bridgeport. Over the years he held various jobs in the Bridgeport area. He liked to visit his family members, especially his parents in Maine.He will be buried near his beloved parents and older brother, William, at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.Rest in Peace, Karl.Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.Condolences, stories and photos may be shared at http://www.plummerfh.com.
